The trend of remote work popularity in other countries continues to gain momentum. The approach of “living and working where you want” is familiar and close to me. That’s why I continue to monitor in my blog which countries are accepting digital nomads and under what conditions. Every week, I track information on this topic on leading news and specialized websites.
In 2024, 5 more countries plan to launch visa programs for remote workers or digital nomads.
Here are these countries.
Andorra
Andorra planned to launch a visa for digital nomads in 2021, but officially approved the program at the end of 2023.
Andorra has a peculiar restriction – no more than 50 digital nomads can be in the country simultaneously. It’s understandable, as the country is tiny.
Before applying for such a visa in Andorra, your work must be approved by the Ministry of Economy. If the application is approved, you can stay in the country for up to 2 years with the possibility of extension. Applications are already being accepted.
Andorra is mountains, duty-free trade, and a ski resort with reasonable prices.
Philippines
It is expected that a visa for digital nomads in the Philippines will be launched in the first half of 2024.
Details of obtaining and requirements for visa applicants are not yet known. It is expected that the annual income requirements will be around $24,000 USD. This amount is unlikely to deter remote workers.
The digital nomad visa in the Philippines will be issued for 1 year with the possibility of extension for another 12 months.
The Philippines offer low prices, excellent climate, the world’s best beaches and sea, as well as cultural traditions and delicious food. Moreover, the Philippines are an excellent platform for exploring other Southeast Asian countries.
South Korea
South Korea is joining the countries welcoming digital nomads. With the corresponding visa, you can stay in the country for up to 2 years.
The financial threshold for obtaining such a visa is high – 84.96 million won (USD 65,000). If you earn this amount, you are unlikely to be disappointed in South Korea. The country is currently at the peak of popularity among tourists of all formats.
Japan
Finally, the digital nomad visa will launch in Japan. The expected start date of the program is the end of March 2024.
In Japan, the digital nomad visa will have the highest income requirements. This is not surprising, as the country is expensive.
Applicants for this visa will need to show an annual income of 10 million yen (USD 68,300) plus private medical insurance.
South Africa
At the end of 2023, South Africa announced plans to launch a program for digital nomads. The official date has not been announced yet.
It is known that the annual income requirements will be at the level of 1 million rand (USD 55,000). The level of annual income is the main indicator of the attractiveness of the visa. Naturally, the country issuing the visa wants nomads to contribute to the economy, hence the high income requirements.
The visa will be issued for a period of up to 3 years. If a digital nomad plans to stay in the country for more than months, he must register with the local tax authorities.
From the perspective of a digital nomad, South Africa is damn attractive and will be an excellent place to explore a new country.
