Where are the best beaches in Europe? Where to go in summer without being disappointed, as often happens when chasing Instagram photos?
To be honest, I would have overlooked another ranking, even if it came from the European Commission, if it hadn’t coincided with my own preferences.
Below are three really cool countries for summer vacation. We have traveled to each of them several times, and one of them we’ve visited more than 10 times, feeling almost like home.
For us, it’s about emotions, while the European Commission deals with dry figures indicating that 99% of the beaches in these countries are rated excellent by visitors!
Why These Countries Have the Cleanest Beaches in Europe?
#3: Cyprus
A tiny island that not everyone can find on the map without zooming in, situated in the Mediterranean Sea between Greek and Turkish islands. Nevertheless, this little gem is ready to surprise even those who have traveled half the world and seen almost everything.
Cyprus’s strengths include its magnificent Mediterranean cuisine, comparable to Greek or Turkish cuisines, turquoise sea and high-quality beaches, and stunning nature. Cyprus welcomes travelers year-round due to its warm climate, abundance of sunshine, and two international airports in Paphos and Larnaca, reachable from almost anywhere in the world.
I have plenty of reports on Cyprus with useful information. Traveling independently in Cyprus is very easy and never gets boring. The same can be said for the next two destinations.
#2: Greece
I wasn’t surprised to see this destination in the European Commission’s ranking either.
Greece’s strength lies in its islands, numbering over 6000. Along the coastline, besides excellent beaches (like in Halkidiki), there’s plenty of history. Rent a car and go ahead—there’s no chance of getting bored, and prices allow you not to worry too much about the budget.
Apart from popular islands like Santorini, Mykonos, or Rhodes, Greece has plenty of other places that are just as impressive. Discover islands like Lefkada, Kefalonia, Corfu, Zakynthos, Ithaca, or Crete, finally.
If you’re interested in cultural aspects, head to Athens or Thessaloniki or include them in your itinerary.
It’s important to remember that the best time to visit Greece is late August and September, as well as early June. July and the first half of August are very hot, and there are more tourists than fish in the sea.
Another tip: avoid cafes and restaurants in touristy areas. But I think you’re already aware of that.
#1: Croatia
While some choose Spain or Italy for their summer vacations, which are highly popular, we prefer Croatia, and the European Commission agrees, awarding this country first place on Europe’s beach “Olympus.”
Just Dubrovnik alone is worth visiting with its historic streets, fortress, and simply divine coastline.
Those who have vacationed in Croatia believe that over 99% of its places deserve an excellent rating. In plain language, wherever you go in Croatia, you’ll always be satisfied with your vacation. Just point your finger on the map of Croatia and go there to relax – with a probability close to 100%, you’ll be pleased. Isn’t that cool?
I have a lot of material about Croatia, so just choose according to your preferences and budget.
Croatia boasts the bluest sea I’ve seen in Europe and the cleanest coastline. Add to that excellent cuisine and great local wine, and you’ll consider your vacation a successful investment in yourself.
Besides Dubrovnik, pay attention to the Makarska Riviera, islands like Hvar and Korcula, and the Istrian Peninsula.
The season in Croatia is not as long as in Cyprus, so confidently plan your vacation here from late June to late September or mid-October. During this time of year, expect excellent seas, minimal rain, and maximum sunny days.
