The long-awaited program for granting visas to digital nomads will soon be operational. Such a visa, called the “Destination Thailand Visa” (DTV), will allow remote work and continuous stay in Thailand for up to 1 year.

The DTV visa is aimed at digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers, and those interested in studying Thai culture, cuisine, or Muay Thai (Thai boxing). This was announced by a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

Remote workers have long favored Thailand, but until now, they have not been particularly welcomed in the country. Starting this year, that’s all set to change. The multiple-entry visa is valid for five years and allows stays of up to 180 days, with the possibility of extending for another 180 days.

Who can get the digital nomad visa in Thailand and how much does it cost? The “Destination Thailand Visa” is available to anyone working remotely, freelancers, and those intending to attend Muay Thai, other sports training, or culinary courses. Spouses or children of DTV visa holders can also obtain this visa.

The application fee for the digital nomad visa is 10,000 baht (252 euros). The visa is available from July 2024.

In addition, Thailand has expanded the scope of its visa on arrival to 36 countries.

If you are over 50 years old, you can apply for a retirement visa in Thailand. The requirement for mandatory insurance has been reduced from 3 million baht (75,550 euros) to 440,000 baht (11,000 euros).
