So, as of July 21, 2023, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, there have been 1426 cases of Dengue fever reported. This is important information regarding the spread of this dangerous disease.

Comparing this with data for the entire year of 2022, it can be observed that last year there were only 231 cases of Dengue fever on the Mexican Caribbean coast. This indicates a significant increase in the incidence rate for the current year.

The municipality of Benito Juarez, where the popular resort of Cancun is located, is the hardest hit. Here, more than 108 cases of Dengue fever have been registered. Additionally, Playa del Carmen reports 82 cases of this disease.

In the capital of the state of Quintana Roo, Chetumal, there is also a high level of incidence, but this is linked to the proximity to the Rio Hondo River on the border with Belize. This river serves as a natural reservoir necessary for the reproduction of mosquitoes, which are the carriers of Dengue fever.

The most favorable situation regarding Dengue fever is observed on the islands of Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Tulum, and Puerto Morelos.

Out of all the registered cases in Quintana Roo, 771 are classified as mild Dengue, 623 as cases with worrisome symptoms, and 32 as severe cases. On average, the state sees 7.16 new infection cases each day. However, the actual number of cases is likely higher, as ineffective treatment prevents those infected from seeking medical assistance, and such cases are not reflected in the statistics.

It is also worth noting that in 2023, three deaths from Dengue fever have been confirmed in the state of Quintana Roo. All these cases were registered in Cancun, and the victims were men who did not seek medical help in a timely manner. This underscores the importance of seeking medical attention promptly if Dengue fever is suspected.
