Prime Minister of Thailand, Sretta Tavissin, has agreed to extend the operating hours of nightlife establishments, including restaurants, nightclubs, pubs, and bars.

Starting from December 15, nighttime venues in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi, and Phuket will be able to welcome guests until 4 in the morning. The permission to operate during the night will be temporary and will be in a trial period, with exact dates yet to be determined.

As of December 15, 2023, entertainment venues such as restaurants, bars, pubs, and nightclubs can operate until 4 in the morning. Previously, the timing was restricted until midnight. The Prime Minister explains the decision by noting that foreign guests visiting Thailand might have different dining schedules compared to locals. Many only plan to dine after 10:00 PM. Consequently, extending the operating hours will allow establishments to generate greater profits.

To extend the operational hours of these venues, changes need to be made to the legislation that currently prohibits the sale of alcohol after 12:00 AM.

Thailand has long been consistently aiming to collect more money from foreign tourists and is confidently moving towards its goal. And I continue to keep track of news from this country.
