Travel bloggers rarely stay in expensive design hotels where every chair looks like it’s posing for a lifestyle magazine. Most of the time, we choose cozy guesthouses – the kind where someone brings homemade churchkhela and pours you another glass of wine “just to welcome you properly”.
But there are exceptions.
And one of them is in Kazbegi.
With a view of a mountain that quietly watches everyone from above.

How It All Started
On our first trip to Georgia, we had already booked a simple tourist hotel in Stepantsminda for $30 a night. Paid, done, no plans to change anything.
Then, during a walk through the village, we accidentally stepped onto a huge wooden terrace with tables, hookahs and a panoramic view so powerful your jaw drops somewhere between your khinkali plate and your wine glass.

An hour later, after a very romantic terrace session, we were cancelling our old booking (and saying goodbye to that money forever), while our bags were moving into a new room.

- evenings can be crowded – the hotel is extremely popular
- parking isn’t always easy
- soundproofing isn’t perfect if your neighbors are very much in love
That said, all this fades quickly.
You’re not here for silence.

And yes – backpackers show up too. No one judges backpacks here.
How to Get There
By Car
Tbilisi → Stepantsminda: about 2–2.5 hours via the Georgian Military Road.
Navigation apps find Rooms Hotel Kazbegi easily – just don’t accidentally follow signs toward Russia.
After the police checkpoint, turn right uphill and drive another half kilometer along the winding road. There are signs everywhere.
And if you still get lost – Georgians will help you. That’s just how it works.
No Car? Not a Problem
