Slovenia launches a digital nomad visa from November 2025. Learn who’s eligible, how to apply, the cost of living, best cities, and why Slovenia might be a better option than Montenegro.
Slovenia is jumping into the digital nomad game. Starting November 21, 2025, remote workers can officially apply for a one-year digital nomad visa.
Heads up: the visa can’t be extended, but hey, you can take a half-year break somewhere else (hello, Bali!) and apply again later.
Who Can Apply?
-
You must work exclusively for foreign clients or companies.
-
Local jobs? Nope, strictly forbidden. Break the rules — and you’re out.
-
You can bring your family, but they’re not allowed to work in Slovenia either.
You’ll need to prove you’re earning enough to survive (think paychecks, contracts, bank statements).
Exact income requirements are still under wraps, but expect at least €2,000–2,500 per month, based on similar EU visas.
How Much Does Life in Slovenia Cost?
-
€1,500–2,000 per month will get you a solid, comfy life.
-
Rent in Ljubljana starts from €600–900 per month; smaller towns are much cheaper.
-
Coffee: €1.5–2 ☕ | Pizza: €7–10 🍕 | Coworking: from €150/month 💻
Where to Stay?
-
Ljubljana — the cozy capital full of coworking spaces, bikes, and remote workers pretending to hustle.
-
Maribor — smaller, calmer, cheaper. Perfect if you want to avoid tourist crowds.
-
Kranj, Celje, Koper — chill towns close to mountains or the sea, great for families.
Why Slovenia Is (Maybe) Better Than Montenegro
-
Way better infrastructure: smooth roads, public transport that actually works, fast Wi-Fi.
-
Slovenia is compact: mountains, lakes, wineries, and the sea — all within a 2-hour drive.
-
Fewer crowds in summer, reasonable prices all year round.
-
Bonus: an official digital nomad visa, no tourist visa games.
